The Avet Slope

The Avet Slope

The Avet slope has been chosen to host the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Women Soldeu 2012. Located at Grandvalira-Soldeu, the competition slope and its classic layout, approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since October 2007, has a safe and spectacular design.

The slope can be reached through a modern 8-seater cable car and also with a 6-seater detachable chairlift.

The slope has a north-west orientation, which guarantees the quality of the snow, and descends through almost the whole course to its steepest point towards the village of Soldeu, where it ends. The whole run is perfectly visible from Soldeu and most of the sunniest hotel rooms overlook the competition slope.

The tunnel and the finish area

The new tunnel of the Avet slope is 80 metres long and is located in its intermediate area.

The tunnel will be wide enough for the snowplough to pass through and will be illuminated in order to meet safety regulations. With these modifications, the Avet slope will rise a few metres, allowing a cross slope which did not exist until now, thereby making it more attractive. Moreover, the tunnel will provide an underground passage for skiers coming from the blue slope of L’Ós as they will not have to go through the Avet black slope.

Moreover, it will allow the whole of the Avet slope to be closed for training and, above all, for the races of the Alpine Ski World Cup Women and other competitions without affecting visitors.

The finish area has also been modified, lowering the ground to provide a wider space of 80 metres.

Artificial snow

Artificial snow covers the whole slope, including the start and finish areas. At the Grandvalira domain there are 15 snow production centres covering 65 km of the 193 km of its slopes. The technical staff specialising in artificial snow are highly skilled in this technology. Moreover, to guarantee the best artificial snow conditions at the Avet slope, 34 state-of-the-art canons have been installed with a snow production capacity of 500 m3/h.
